Twenty-nine Essex people have been recognised in the King’s first Birthday Honours.

They include Eileen French, founder and trustee of the Essex Council of Voluntary Youth Organisations, Ian Twinley, a Deputy Lieutenant and chair of the East Anglian Reserve Force, who both receive an MBE (Member of the British Empire), Essex Girl Guide leader Jacqueline Goddard, from Westcliffe, Roy Tyzack from Brentwood and Ernest Watson, chair of Saffron Walden Museum Society, who are each awarded a BEM (British Empire Medal).

Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst, Lord-Lieutenant of Essex, the King’s personal representative in the county, said: “ These honours are national recognition for those who contribute so much to our communities. Without such people, our lives, our county and our country would be much the poorer. However, these Birthday Honours, recognise only a small part of the huge contribution made by many who work tirelessly for their communities.

“I would encourage anyone who knows someone who has made a big difference to others or for other community work, to nominate them for a national honour.”
