HM Lord Lieutenant of Essex

Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Essex is Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst, the first woman to be appointed to the office in the county since it was established in the 1500s.

She is Her Majesty the Queen’s personal representative in the county.

The main duty of the Lord-Lieutenant is to uphold the dignity of the Crown in Essex, including encouraging voluntary service and benevolent organisations, helping to create a spirit of co-operation in the county, supporting business and industry and the social life of Essex. The appointment is non-political and unpaid.

Two projects in Essex are set to get over 2 million pounds from the government's coastal communities fund. 1.5 million will go towards Canvey Island's Seafront regeneration project. The rest will be used to boost the image of the Essex Costal Path as a tourist destination.

Tuesday AM presented High Sheriff Awards in #HMPChelmsford. Winning prisoner had improved his construction skills and had distributed birthday cards to each prisoner at his own expense. Many of the winning prison officers were some of the new recruits of the last 2 years.
