HM Lord Lieutenant of Essex

Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Essex is Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst, the first woman to be appointed to the office in the county since it was established in the 1500s.

She is Her Majesty the Queen’s personal representative in the county.

The main duty of the Lord-Lieutenant is to uphold the dignity of the Crown in Essex, including encouraging voluntary service and benevolent organisations, helping to create a spirit of co-operation in the county, supporting business and industry and the social life of Essex. The appointment is non-political and unpaid.

Very pleased to attend @ChelmsCouncil Chelmsford Holocaust Memorial Day where students from local secondary schools spoke. Ernest Simon, born in Eisenstadt Austria in 1930 and came to England as part of the Kindertransport in 1939 was the main speaker. A very moving occasion.

Holocaust Memorial Day @RayIeigh @RochfordDC very moving ceremony conducted by Rev David Oxtoby and a talk by Mr Leslie Kleinman BEM whose large family lived in the Carpathian Mountains but who was the family’s sole survivor of Auschwitz.

It was a great pleasure to represent @Essex_LL last night for the #Harlow @EssexVPC awards. Commendations to local @EssexPoliceUK officers too. Inspiring evening.

Great to see two of the @Essex_LL Deputy Lieutenants supporting B Coy #Essex ACF during their Basic Training & Enrolment Ceremony yesterday in front of approx 200 family & friends. Both Mr Twinley DL and Col Thomas TD*DL presented cadets with star badges and with other awards.
