The Essex Lieutenancy

HM Lord Lieutenant of Essex

Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Essex is Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst, the first woman to be appointed to the office in the county since it was established in the 1500s.

She is Her Majesty the Queen’s personal representative in the county.

The main duty of the Lord-Lieutenant is to uphold the dignity of the Crown in Essex, including encouraging voluntary service and benevolent organisations, helping to create a spirit of co-operation in the county, supporting business and industry and the social life of Essex. The appointment is non-political and unpaid.

Today, The Duke of Edinburgh has been succeeded as Colonel-in-Chief of @riflesregiment by The Duchess of Cornwall, in a ceremony which took place at both Windsor Castle and Highgrove House.

The Queen enjoying today’s military ceremony at Windsor Castle, held to mark Her Majesty’s Official Birthday. 👇

At 10 am today, The Piper to the Sovereign, Pipe Major Richard Grisdale along with Pipers across Scotland, played in memory of the Heroes of St Valéry.

These soldiers remained in France following the successful mass evacuations at Dunkirk at the beginning of June 1940.

It is humbling to realise how very many people of all ages are carers and the time, love and commitment they give to those they care for. We remember them and thank them #CarersWeek2020

Sadly not this year, but normally at this time the Cinque Port Liberty of @Brightlingsea #essex holds a procession followed by a blessing of the waters by the Bishop of Colchester from a fishing smack. Very much look forward to it next year.
