HM Lord Lieutenant of Essex

Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Essex is Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst, the first woman to be appointed to the office in the county since it was established in the 1500s.

She is Her Majesty the Queen’s personal representative in the county.

The main duty of the Lord-Lieutenant is to uphold the dignity of the Crown in Essex, including encouraging voluntary service and benevolent organisations, helping to create a spirit of co-operation in the county, supporting business and industry and the social life of Essex. The appointment is non-political and unpaid.

The Essex Lieutenancy was present at 23 remembrance events over the weekend to mark our gratitude to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to pray for them and their families and today’s armed forces.

Delighted to support @HelpforHeroes yesterday with their appeal at St George’s Yard @BraintreeDC with Essex veteran Lee Patmore and triple amputee and @WeAreInvictus competitor veteran David Watson - a real inspiration -also Julian North and Ann Scott organising.

The Queen’s Young Leaders Programme has recognised 240 exceptional young people aged 18-29 from across the Commonwealth who are transforming the lives of others.

Each year from 2014 to 2018, 60 exceptional young people were selected to receive a @QueensLeaders Award.

... And provided sight-saving surgery to over 104,000 people suffering with trachoma trichiasis.
