HM Lord Lieutenant of Essex

Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Essex is Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst, the first woman to be appointed to the office in the county since it was established in the 1500s.

She is Her Majesty the Queen’s personal representative in the county.

The main duty of the Lord-Lieutenant is to uphold the dignity of the Crown in Essex, including encouraging voluntary service and benevolent organisations, helping to create a spirit of co-operation in the county, supporting business and industry and the social life of Essex. The appointment is non-political and unpaid.

Chaired the Recently united Essex and Cambridgeshire Lord Chancellors Advisory Committee. We are working at increasing recruitment for new Magistrates. Being a Justice of the Peace is important and interesting work. @MagsAssoc

Evening @cressingtemple for the Friends fo Cressing Temple Garden Party. Watched the charming and informative film of the history of the restoration of the Garden made from old archive material and opened new Pergola. Learned much about old herbs from excellent guide.

Privileged to unveil plaque at Little Totham’s ‘Tommy’ war memorial on 100 anniversary of the signing of Treaty of Versailles. A wonderful village occasion organised by Richard Siddall and his team. Martin Barraud the artist who created the ‘Tommy’ also came and was much moved.
